Originally scheduled was a rematch between Jiří Procházka and Glover Teixeira but Procházka was seriously injured in training and forced out of the fight.

An injury to Jiri Prochazka resulted in him relinquishing the UFC light-heavyweight title. As a result former 205lb champion Jan Blachowicz will face Magomed Ankalaev for the vacant belt. Blachowicz beat Dominick Reyes for the title but managed only one successful defence of the crown. He beat middleweight champion Israel Adesanya by decision, but in his next outing he was submitted by Glover Teixeira. The Polish fighter bounced back with a stoppage win against Aleksandar Rakic back in May, and he will now look to follow that up by halting the rise of Magomed Ankalaev. Ankalaev lost his UFC debut but has rebounded in spectacular fashion to win his last nine straight fights. His stoppage win over Anthony Smith in July was his biggest win to date, and now he will aim to back that up and complete his rise to the top of the light-heavyweight division. Blachowicz has been to the mountain top before, but it will take a serious effort for him to halt the rise of Ankalaev tonight.
